The Big Sister's Guide to Having Your First Baby

Everything We Wish We'd Known (That the Pregnancy Books Don't Tell You)

Hey mama-to-be (or thinking-about-becoming-one),

Can I tell you something?

When my husband and I started talking about having a baby, I felt this weird mix of excitement and… complete overwhelm.

Not the “oh my gosh, what are we thinking?” kind of overwhelm (okay, maybe a little of that too). 😉

More like: "I have no idea what I don't know, and that terrifies me."

I mean, where do you even start?

I found myself asking friends about their experiences, but everyone’s story was so different. Google searches led me down rabbit holes that left me more confused than before.

And I kept having this nagging feeling that there were important things I should be thinking about—physically, emotionally, and practically—but I had no idea what they were.

Fortunately, I had a secret weapon: my sister Mariah.

Even though she’s technically my younger sister, when it came to pregnancy and babies, she was like my wise big sister. 🙂

She’s a mom to two toddlers, has been a parenting coach for years, and has this amazing way of cutting through all the noise to tell you what you really need to know.

About six months before we started trying, she started giving me the real talk.

Things like:

“Here’s what you need to know about health insurance coverage before you get pregnant.”

“Let’s talk about the financial reality of having a baby.”

And, “These are the conversations you and your husband should have now… not when you’re already pregnant and hormonal!”

Then, once I did get pregnant, she became my lifeline.

(That’s when the pregnancy books and conflicting advice really started overwhelming me.)

Every time I had a question, fear, or “is this normal?” moment, I could text her. She’d talk me through it and help me think through decisions.

And… this was huge… whenever I was having a meltdown, she’d hop on calls with my husband to explain what was happening with me physically and hormonally. That way, he didn’t take it personally and knew exactly how to support me.

That's when I realized: "I want every woman to have a 'Mariah' in their life... a sisterly figure who can share all the most important advice you need to know every step of the way."

Someone who’s actually been through it (recently!) and can give you the real scoop. Someone who can translate all the chaos and conflicting advice into “here’s what you actually need to know right now.”

And yes, someone who can talk to your partner (or biggest support person) and tell them what they really need to know every step of the way, too!

So we decided to create this program… to basically BE that “big sister” for you.

It’s all of Mariah’s best advice, combined with my in-the-moment experience (as we recorded this throughout my second and third trimesters!).

It’s everything you need to know that the pregnancy books may or may not tell you.

Ready? Let’s dive in…

Does This Sound Familiar?

… then you’re in the right place.

Here's What We Created...

How It Works…

The Big Sister’s Guide to Having Your First Baby is a step-by-step video program that walks you through everything you need to know… from “should we start trying?” all the way through the pregnancy, and even the postpartum period (those first few months after baby arrives).

Think of it as having your most knowledgeable, most supportive friend on speed dial… except she’s organized all her best advice into a clear roadmap you can follow at your own pace.

Plus, special guidance for your partner (or support person) so they know exactly how to show up for you at each stage!

No overwhelming medical jargon.

No fear-based advice.

Just real, practical wisdom from two women who’ve been exactly where you are.

#1: Your Partner Gets Their Own Roadmap Too!

This program isn’t just for you. Though we assume you’ll listen to most of it yourself, each of the four sections also includes:

  • A video specifically for your partner (or biggest support person) explaining what you’re going through at this stage, and how they can help.

  • Conversation guides, so you both know what topics to cover and when… keeping you aligned every step of the way.

Because here’s the thing: your partner wants to help, but they often don’t know how.

When you’re having a hormonal meltdown at 2 AM because you read something scary on the internet, they need context. When you’re stretched to your maximum capacity physically & emotionally, they need to know exactly what they can do to help (can you say foot massages?!).

Plus, there are all those big conversations you need to have—about finances, maternity leave, birth preferences, how to handle well-meaning but overwhelming family members—and these videos will help them show up as your teammate for all of it.

For most of you, these resources are great for your partner, but they can also be shared with your mom, best friend, or biggest support person during your pregnancy. Whoever that is, these videos will help them understand how to support you better.

(Trust me, these conversations saved my marriage multiple times during pregnancy!)

#2: Skip the Overwhelm. Get the Overview.

No more drowning in pregnancy books you’ll never finish or falling down Google rabbit holes at 3 AM. No more trying to piece together advice from 10 different friends who all had completely different experiences.

This is your one-stop roadmap for your entire journey… from pre-conception planning all the way through those first few months with baby.

It’s the most important things you need to know, organized by stage, so you can focus on enjoying this experience instead of stressing about what you might be missing.

#3: Real-Time Experience + Expert Guidance.

I’m not sharing this wisdom 10 years down the road when I’ve forgotten what it actually felt like. Everything in this program is what I’ve been learning in real time… while Mariah shares her expert advice as both a parenting coach and a mama of two toddlers.

So you get both: my in-the-moment reality AND Mariah’s practical wisdom of experience. All delivered in a light-hearted and practical way… like you’re having a conversation with your big sister or best friend.

About Your Guides

Makena Sage: I recorded this program while I was pregnant with my first baby and documented everything as it happened! 🙂

After graduating from University, I ran a successful online marketing business for six years, only to burn out and step into my “bigger dream” of becoming a life and business coach. For the past seven years, I’ve run a successful international coaching business along with our mom, 40-year master coach Gigi Sage.

I’m the type of person who likes to be prepared, and I created this program to help other mamas-to-be feel as ready as they can be for this huge and exciting transition!

Mariah Sage: I’m a mom to two toddlers and have been a parenting coach for years. I started babysitting as a young kid, studied psychology and human development in university, then spent several years as a full-time nanny (including helping raise twin preemies!).

After having two kids of my own, I realized there was a big difference between the theory and practice of parenting. When Makena asked me to create this program with her, I was super excited to share more of what I’ve learned with other mamas-to-be!

We both grew up in the coaching world—our mom helped pioneer the coaching industry four decades ago—so we know how to cut through the noise and give you what you actually need.

*Important note: We’re not doctors, lawyers, or medical professionals. We’re just two women sharing what we’ve learned from our own experiences. Always consult with your healthcare provider for medical advice.

The Best Time to Start?

If you’re thinking about getting pregnant in the next 6-12 months: RIGHT NOW.

Seriously. The pre-pregnancy section alone will save you so much stress and help you put important things in place before you’re dealing with morning sickness and pregnancy brain.

If you’re already pregnant: Also, RIGHT NOW. 🙂

Whether you’re 6 weeks or 25 weeks, this program will meet you where you are… and help you feel prepared for what’s coming next.

But honestly? The earlier you start, the better. Not because you need to stress about everything in advance, but because there’s something so calming about having a roadmap. You’ll know what’s coming, what conversations to have, and what decisions you can make ahead of time versus what you can figure out later.

One Last Thing...

I know $97 might feel like a lot when you’re already thinking about all the expenses that come with having a baby.

But think about it this way: without this information, you’ll probably spend more than that on:

  • Pregnancy books you don’t end up reading (or loving).

  • Baby gear you don’t actually need.

  • Therapy appointments to clear up conflicts with your partner (just kidding… hopefully!).

This program will help you make smarter decisions, have better conversations with your partner, and feel actually prepared for what’s coming.

That peace of mind? It’s priceless.

And if you have questions that we didn’t cover? Email us. We’re committed to making this the most helpful resource possible, and we’ll keep adding to it based on what you need.

We look forward to supporting you throughout every stage of your pregnancy journey!

xoxo,
